all about Us: Sarah

The studio owner we all know and love comes clean about a few quirks (like, who knew she could be a bossy pants!?). Read on about Sarah’s thoughts before uforia opened and where she sees the company moving forward.
Name: Sarah Lux

Hometown: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA!
Where did you come up with the idea of uforia? uforia was born out of necessity. Rob and I were both competitive athletes and loved the relationships we formed with our teammates and coaches over the years and we wanted to bring that same kind of community to more people through group exercise.  We both always saw exercise as the highlight of our day and never as a chore.  We’ve been really fortuante to find some of the very best teachers in the industry who are professional, work hard, and love their clients.
A year ago today, did you think you’d be this successful? Not really, a year ago we were in the awkward teenage years with the company. We didn’t really know who we were and what we were going to be when we grew up. A big part of the culture at uforia is openness and an ability to adapt and be open to change. What makes uforia successful is our really talented team of teachers, choreographers, designers and mix masters.

Where do you see uforia in a year from today? Hopefully we’ve matured a little more. We look forward to launching a couple new programs that are in the works. They are really very different from what is currently being done in the industry, so we’re really excited about that.

Any other exciting plans for the future of uforia? We will also be launching our retail store soon! I can’t wait.

What’s your favorite way to workout? I like variety. I don’t always want to do the same thing everyday. I love taking classes when I can at uforia. Revolutions and uDefine are my personal favorites at the moment. I also like to trail run, swim and hike. Whatever I do, I prefer to exercise with friends, its that element of interaction (and sometimes gossip) that make exercising exciting.

How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle? I try to exercise 4-6 times a week. I also really like to cook, but I do much less of that now. We get a fruit and veggie box which means that we’ll always have fresh produce to cook with. Rob and I also believe in taking and making time for relationships and regularly schedule date nights or hikes with just the two of us.
We all need a little cheat-cheat from time to time, so what’s your favorite indulgence? I’m not a dieter, although I could do better at eating healthy. I like a nice glass of wine and a piece, or handful, of chocolate.

Three things that people may not know about you or would be surprised to learn about you?
1. I’ve escaped from Alcatraz, I swam from the rock to the bay.
2. My favorite place in the world is at my family’s cabin in Canada, surrounded by them.
3. I’ve bungee jumped and been sky diving.
If you had to describe yourself in one word, it would be: Pushy. At least this is how my family and friends describe me!
When you have a day off, we will most likely find you: Whats that? I like to get out to the beach or to the forest. I also like to write.

Your favorite uforia moment: My favorite moment is when a new client comes out of their class, sweaty and smiling and grabs a blueberry and chilled towel. Seriously, I love seeing that “euphoric” look in their eyes, like they can’t believe that exercise could be that fun. It doesn’t matter what crap this person was dealing with before class, they had an hour to themselves and now they can take on the world again. I think I truly have the best work environment, people are always happy.
