all about Us: Corey

If you’re a get-your-workout-over-with-in-the-morning type of person, you’ve likely taken a uCycle class with our intense instructor, Corey. If you’re not that type of  person, we suggest you pretend to be sometime soon (either on a Wednesday or Saturday morning, 7am and 9am, respectively). His seemingly endless cycle wisdom coupled with the entertaining banter that ensues with his “regulars” is just the right combo to get you to work hard while also, as he puts it: not take yourself too seriously.  Read more about Corey below!

Name:  Corey Geiger

Nickname: Corey *is* my nickname…

Hometown:  Cherry Point, North Carolina

Word on the street is you have another daytime job, what is it exactly that you do?

I am a consultant for start-ups and small / medium-sized businesses.  I currently run a non-profit organization focused on economic development.  I was a corporate guy, suit and tie, for 25 years.

What makes your uCycle classes different from others?

The clients make my uCycle classes different – lots of couples come to the class, and a few smart-aleck regulars.  We try not to take ourselves too seriously.  I encourage the clients to approach uCycle as a practice, kind of like yoga:  show up, be present, focus on your body and your workout, but treat yourself with compassion if it’s not your best day.

We hear you’re a pretty great spin teacher, so what is your favorite part of teaching spin and, specifically, spin at uforia?

The clients make the class.  They are why I get up in the morning and teach.  I encourage music requests, and we try to keep it fresh with their suggestions.  We work pretty hard, but we have fun doing it.  We have a few singers in the sessions, though some clients encourage me to leave the singing to them 🙂

How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle?

I follow a nutrition plan, but not too rigidly.  Cycling is my primary exercise, to a fault.

Three things that people may not know about you or would be surprised to learn about you?

1.  I speak three languages and have forgotten two others

2.  I have lived on three continents

3.  I am a Monty Python fan

If you had to describe yourself in one word, it would be:  Intense

When you have a day off, we will most likely find you:  On a bike
